"No woman, no drive" satire went viral since yesterday, the day a number of Saudi women defied the driving ban on 26 October 2013
Hisham Fageeh joined ranks with Fahad Albutairi and Alaa Wardi in a viral satire.
Hisham Fageeh (Wiki) was born in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He began performing stand-up comedy as a student at the Columbia University, from which he graduated in May 2013. He attended the UCB Theater in New York, studying long form improvisation. Within a year Fageeh was taking the stage. He began performing in Arabic after his satirical vlog YouTube series "Isboo'iyat Hisham" (Hisham's weeklies) went viral in December 19, 2011.
Fageeh's Bob Marley-inspired "No woman, no drive" satire produced with Fahad Albutairi and Alaa Wadi quickly went viral on the same day that a number of Saudi women defied the driving ban in the kingdom on 26 October 2013.
Dozens of Saudi women took to the roads around Saudi Arabia on Saturday, defying a new surge of warnings from the government, mosque pulpits and radio channels to drop their challenge to a de facto ban on driving by women. By midafternoon Saturday, about 40 women had defied the ban by driving in cities around the kingdom, according to their text messages and emails to other supporters of a recently-revived grassroots campaign for the legalization of Saudi women's driving. A half-dozen posted videos online purportedly showing themselves driving Saturday. A handful of women challenged a prohibition forbidding women to drive in Saudi Arabia and took to the roads, getting behind the wheel to protest the ban. Although no law explicitly prohibits women from driving in Saudi Arabia, the government has refused to give them licenses. (Source)
