SPECIAL: CAN THE MIDDLE EAST BE SAVED?

Mehdi Hasan talks to retired Lt. General Michael T. Flynn, former head of the US Defense Intelligence Agency, on how to deal with ISIS and Iran, and about the long term future of the Middle East. According to Flynn too much is invested in conflict and not enough in development. Flynn is a registered Democrat and a progressive.

In the video Al Jazeera's Mehdi Hasan challenges retired Lieutenant General Michael T. Flynn, former head of the US Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), on the rise of ISIS, the War on Terror, and how to deal with Iran. Flynn is the former head of the US Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) and a commander of J-SOC, the covert ops squad that hunted Al Qaeda in Iraq and Afghanistan all the way to Osama Bin Laden's compound in Pakistan.

As a military man Flynn concludes that the administration's policies on the Middle East are too much focused on short term tactics and not enough on long term strategies. That is something that can be explained. Because postmodernists have made induction a taboo on moral grounds, they are incapable of projecting anything into the future. It is a cognitive issue. (Source) But that is not the only problem by far.

Before the Obama administration was engaged in talks with Iran, the regime and a number of other states, have been working on another plan to redraw the map of the region. Recently we stumbled on the now abandoned scheme called the Juppé-Wright Plan that entailed a Middle East with a homeland for the Kurds, but also a Caliphate, both under Turkish tutelage! It is unbelievable that serious politicians can actually contemplate such "solutions". (Source)

On the international and diplomatic level States and Governments are treating each other as moral equals. This principle has been dominant in the world since the Peace Treaty of Westphalia signed in 1648. (Source) This is why the UN is such a mess. The vilest dictators are rubbing shoulders with elected Presidents of free nations on a regular basis. It is an abomination! 

Frankly we can't talk ourselves into a better world, negotiating with theocrats, authoritarians and mass murderers of their own people. Reality simply doesn't work that way. Evil exists and appeasing it turns the appeaser into an accomplice. This means that a country needs to change itself into a force for the good before it can be welcomed into the fold of civilization.

As Flynn is pointing out, Iran has been a force for evil for the last 60 odd years. What the UN (5+1) has done in this agreement is unconscionable. The agreement (which according to Obama isn't a Treaty) hands Iran the money and capacity to destabilize the entire Middle East. Who knows anything about the Iranian brand of Islam, is well aware of the aim of this death cult. It is working to enact the world's destruction, so that Utopia may ensue under Shia Islam. (Source) 

Flynn is well aware of the nature of Islam: it is a political ideology based on a religion. This is not a minor "corruption" of the doctrine. It is central to the doctrine. Islam is primarily a political creed that combines its worldly organization with religious institutions. Not only does Islam not make any distinction between the worldly and the spiritual. Also the separation of powers that is vital to a free society based on individualism, is an unknown concept. Islam can only produce tribalistic, feudal,  totalitarian states. 

Any progress is impossible in the Middle East without the reformation of Islam. Short cuts are simply not possible. The mistakes of democrats have often been the subject of postings in these pages. (Source) You can't start with political elections, assuming that a civil society will develop from there. That's reversing cause and effect. The process of individualization, the mental emancipation from the tribal society is fundamental.

Another reality is, that this is an individual process. It can't be done by Government decree or by the order of an enlightened tyrant. It's voluntary by its very nature. It takes a very long time and much conscious effort. 

It's called development and Islam is a major impediment. The free West making concessions to evil regimes is not going to contribute to improving the Middle East. On the contrary. The best way would be to send all politicians on early retirement and open up trade, while encouraging cultural exchanges.

At the same time we can't neglect the forces of evil still multiplying, in the region and far beyond. It is simply not possible to negotiate with them. What about? How many apostates they can kill? How many women they can enslave? Children to crucify? Gays to throw from buildings? Who wants a better world had better start living in reality, instead of touting a blind belief in unicorns and contradictions.
