Human life span is such that we tend to look on history as a progressive timeline. More likely is that time progresses in never ending cycles of what Leonard Peikoff in The DIM Hypothesis calls I, D and M type civilizations (chart). As our civilization is slipping from Modernism (I and D1) into full throttle destructive Postmodernism (D2), we are in serious danger of losing something fairly rare and precious. Stagnant, culturally barren dark ages can last for centuries, and may even last forever this time, who knows? Let's not lose the longest span of reason, liberty and prosperity humanity has ever known. History is determined by culture, culture by how we think. It is in our own hands.
