TRUMPISM: PRAGMATIC AMERICAN EXCEPTIONALISM IN 10 POINTS

Donald Trump's "Make America Great Again Movement" can be summed up in three words: Pragmatic American Exceptionalism. The program comprises pride in economic achievement, striving for excellence, fighting cronyism, fair bilateral trade deals and strong relationships with allies.

With the demise of the Soviet Union in 1989 the world added peace dividend to unparalleled post World War II prosperity. But the paradigm is collapsing. A number of very complex problems are developing that can't be resolved within the present conceptual framework. The present situation challenges the ideological Right to develop a new strategy that is suitable for the new world. Rinoism -- paying lip service to Conservatism while pursuing Progressive policies -- is dead and can't be resuscitated without causing a popular revolt. In order to be relevant in the new age a pragmatic political program has been devised by Republican presidential front runner, Donald Trump. It is a hybrid of successful negotiating tactics, the best elements of Conservatism and a brand of grassroots populism. These are the major points.

1. Anti Cronyism
2. Anti Political Correctness
3. Strong focus on jobs
4. Anti Globalism
5. Maintaining welfare programs, lower the debt.
6. Reduction of Big Government, Tax and Health Care reform, abolish Common Core
7. Pro American Exceptionalism
8. Borders and National Security
9. America First, no nation building, fight to win
10. Excellent communication of the policy program to the voters

1. Anti Cronyism

Politicians and political parties are paid by donors and special interest groups. They dictate policies through lobbyists. Cronies and Government feed off each other, increasingly growing the Government. Donald J. Trump finances has own campaign and is beholden to nobody. He can't be controlled by the elites in the power structure.

2. Anti Political Correctness

Political Correctness is how the elites control and regulate speech and public opinion. In order to break its strangle hold, PC needs to be actively resisted. Donald J. Trump is strongly breaking the PC choke hold of the power elites on free speech.

3. Strong focus on jobs

This is a negotiating position to bring fairness to international trade. If you give workers a level playing field, they can compete in the international market place. The results will be huge for businesses and workers. Jobs and factories will stop moving offshore and instead stay at home. The steps outlined in this plan will make that a reality.

4. Anti Globalism

Smart trade deals that force foreign markets to open up for American products. (China) Trumpism opposes unfair trade deals as NAFTA, TPP (history, TTIP, etc. These treaties must be renegotiated.

5. Maintaining welfare programs

No cuts in social security and existing welfare programs. These programs become affordable again through higher tax revenues (Laffer curve). The US is $19 trillion in debt and growing. This is a crushing burden to leave young Americans. Bring down the deficit, balance the budget and shrink the Government. Here's Trump's revolutionary plan to lower the debt. (More

6. Reduction of Big Government

Includes Health Care Reform and Tax reform on federal personal income tax, corporate tax, repeal of the federal estate tax and gift taxes and for scrapping the deductibility of business interest expenses. (More)
Obamacare (Government health care) will be repealed.
Implementation of free market principles, restoring economic freedom and creating a sound public policy that will broaden healthcare access, making healthcare more affordable and improve the quality of the care available to all. (More)
Abolishing Common Core education.

7. Pro American Exceptionalism

Striving for excellence as individuals and as a country. Do not settle for mediocrity. American Brand Building "Made in the USA" (national marketing).

8. Borders and National Security

Support of the 2nd Amendment (more). Immigration reform (more). Building the wall, Mexico will pay for the wall. Strengthen the borders. A temporary ban on the immigration of Muslims. Veterans Administration reform (more).

9. Foreign Policy

Peace through strength: a strong military. Destroy ISIS. Allies will pay for protection. Reluctant intervention abroad and only in the national interest. No nation building. Rules of engagement dictated by winning the war as soon as possible with overwhelming strength. Making a break with Just War Theory. (More on Trump Foreign Policy Doctrine Live Blog)

10. Popular roots

Trumpism requires that political leaders can make the connection with the grassroots and popular culture. They are the cheerleaders of the nation.

The policies set out in the Trump program are widely supported by a broad segment of the electorate across the political spectrum. But Trumpism is a means to the final goal, the return to the principles of the Founding Fathers and individual rights. Trumpism helps prepare the ground to move from soft Socialism back to the founding principles.

Trumpism, or Pragmatic American Exceptionalism is a legitimate, winning strategy that can be simply adopted by other countries under the #GreatAgain brand label.

The practical Trump strategy forestalls most standard criticism leveled by the Left, the ruling elites and corporate classes. It can also serve as a blueprint and as a benchmark for the analysis of other populist programs and an assessment of their adaptability to the Trump model.

Donald J. Trump has developed an incremental strategy that reflects the present spirit of the time. As editors of an Objectivism website we are well aware of the ideological failings of Pragmatism and populism. The alternative of assured existential, nihilist destruction however legitimizes such a strategy, despite its hazards.
